Explore the Program

Hawai'i Rainbow Academy's 2026 Summer program in Sendai, Japan offers middle and high school students, ages 13-18, the chance to explore Japanese culture and history while attending Sendai Ikuei Gakuen Middle School or High School.   

 

This enriching program is designed to expand young minds, create lifelong memories, and open doors to new opportunities for academic and personal growth.​

There is no Japanese speaking requirement.

MORNING​

Students begin their day studying alongside Sendai Ikuei students in engaging morning classes. For lunch, they can enjoy a meal with friends in the school cafeteria or pick up something quick and unique from a nearby convenience store.

AFTERNOON

Afternoons are spent to hands-on experiences, with field excursions to significant historical and cultural sites across the Tohoku region. This balance of classroom learning and cultural immersion allows students to gain academic knowledge while actively experiencing everyday life in Japan—deepening their connection to Sendai, its people, and its traditions.

There is an option to stay at a dormitory for boys only.

Currently, Sendai Ikuei Gakuen doesn't not offer a girl's dormitory for the program.​​​

  • Be at least 13 - 18 years old (please contact us if you are interested in the program and will be outside of the age range in 2026).

To apply you must: 

During your program at Sendai Ikuei Gakuen, you will experience homestay with a local host family. You will have a private room. Breakfast and dinner will be provided by host families. You will have access to internet and laundry facilities. Host families live within commuting distance of the campus.

​

You will meet your host family when we arrive to Sendai. They will help you with transportation and navigating the train system in Japan.

Weekends are generally free. You will have some free time to explore Sendai on your own or with friends.

INNOVATION

Sendai Ikuei Gakuen (SIG) is a renowned private school with over 120 years of history and a spirit that blends tradition with innovation.
